Drew McIntyre says he could have “melted the internet” when CM Punk referenced Vince McMahon on WWE RAW. Instead, he decided to do what he thought was right for WWE.
On the March 25 episode of WWE RAW, CM Punk referenced Vince McMahon when commenting on Drew McIntyre being named the “chosen one” earlier in his WWE career. The remark came roughly two months after McMahon resigned from WWE amid allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking Janel Grant made in her lawsuit against the former chairman.
Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Drew McIntyre looked back on the promo.
‘What was going through my mind was I could respond right now, and would it be a good look for our company?” McIntyre said. “And I have to make a decision because we’re going O.K. Corral-style, unloading rounds on each other.”
“I did what I thought was right for not just the company, but for our roster, and held my tongue on that night. I had a couple of things in mind that would have melted the internet, but potentially hurt us in different ways.”
Drew McIntyre On Going Off ‘Those Lines’
Drew McIntyre noted that he “probably” could have gotten away with what he wanted to say. However, he said he was “intelligent” enough that he could “make it compelling without going there.
“If you see Drew McIntyre going off those lines, swearing and saying things like, ‘wow, this is gonna potentially hurt himself or the company or the roster”, then it’s because I have lost it.’”
McIntyre will challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Clash at the Castle.
