Nick Khan Elaborates On Keeping ‘Big Five’ WWE Premium Live Events In North America

Nick Khan gives an update on WWE‘s upcoming premium live event plans.

On Wednesday, news emerged that WWE intended to keep its biggest premium live events, such as the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series, based in North America, with the option to explore international locations for the other premium live events.

WWE President Nick Khan has since provided further details on these plans via the CAA World Congress of Sports.

“We sat down together a few years ago and decided, so the big five premium live events … should be in the United States or Canada,” Khan said (h/t Sports Business Journal). “All of the other events, the goal is to have them from international locations.”

According to Khan, the “big five” premium live events consist of the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Money in the Bank, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series. Therefore, the remaining seven yearly PLEs, such as the Elimination Chamber and Backlash, will be aimed at international destinations going forward.

“We’re just getting started on that too, really,” said WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

WWE PLE Schedule

WWE’s next non-North American premium live event is Backlash, which is slated to take place in Lyon, France on May 4. Following Backlash, WWE will head to Saudi Arabia for King and Queen of the Ring in late May. The next month, WWE will host Clash at the Castle in Glasgow, Scotland. And in late August, the company will present The Bash at Berlin in Germany.

The 2024 Money in the Bank event will emanate from Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 6.

“It’s over and over until we’re back in the United States, I think, in October for one of our premium live events,” Khan said. “There’s a halo effect on those big deals. Merchandise sales, relevancy goes up, and who knows — is the next Yao Ming of that country watching [WWE] and wanting to do it in 10 years.”
