Cody Rhodes says he doesn’t have any influence, but he’s going to try his best to bring back the Winged Eagle title design.
At WWE WrestleMania 40 Night Two, Cody Rhodes beat Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Ahead of the show, Rhodes had hinted that he would want to change its appearance.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Cody Rhodes was asked about his comments about wanting to make changes to the title.
“The side plates haven’t been changed yet, ‘The Tribal Chief’s’ plates are still on there,” Cody Rhodes said. “But a couple things, and I think we should probably just come right out with it. This is what I got in the ring, so there’s a level of specialness to this, equity that’s been put into it, that I have a warm feeling about. So I feel differently about it today. However, that said, I had changed a title previously in the past. I am not in charge of anything, I am no longer an EVP.
“I have no stroke other than the fact that I’m the champion. But I just think it would be special perhaps to see a particular championship, one that I grew up on, and that is [fans chant Winged Eagle]. Again, I’m not in charge of anything, Triple H is in charge of things. But you guys are damn right. The Winged Eagle. If it doesn’t happen, just don’t get mad at me. I’ll do what I did the last time. I’m gonna try my best.”
In 2023, Cody Rhodes said that bringing back the Winged Eagle was a pipe dream, but he would try his best. Check out his comments here.
