On the November 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, Paul Wight will wrestle for the first time since March 2022. He, Chris Jericho, Kota Ibushi, and Kenny Omega will take on The Don Callis Family and Brian Cage in the Like a Dragon Gaiden Street Fight.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Paul Wight commented on his return to in-ring action and detailed the injuries that have prevented him from wrestling.
“I ran hard for many years when I worked for WWE,” Paul Wight said. “About 2018, I think the bill came due. I had a hip replacement in the left hip, then a hip replacement with the right hip, and last year, I had a left knee replacement. So I’m running out of joints. All of the joints that are being replaced feel great, so at this point, I feel like I’m a Terminator now. I’ve got metal parts and I’m moving great.
“I feel good. I’m still beat up. Let’s be honest. I did this five nights a week for 20-plus years all over the world, so at this stage of the game for me, it’s not necessarily about winning championships. It’s having fun. Nobody at 51 is gonna be like that they were at 31. But mentally, I feel great. I’m in a great company, work with a lot of great people, a lot of young kids who have a lot of passion. I’m having fun.”
Paul Wight Says He’s Excited And Nervous
When asked whether he was excited to get back in the ring, Paul Wight stated that he was. He also noted that he is nervous. The veteran went on to explain that, at this stage of his career, he wants to give back to younger talent.
“I am excited. Being honest with you, I’m nervous. I think that’s part of the draw or the magic of doing what we do, is that anticipation, that adrenaline rush of performing in front of a crowd and wanting to put on a good show, an exciting show. That’s a hard fix to get anywhere else. You have to adjust your expectations on what you’re doing as things mature. When you’re younger, it’s kind of about you. They’re building you. Well, I’m built. So now it’s my chance to give back to other talent and help younger talent establish themselves and hopefully become household names at some point.
