Shingo Takagi has won the gold.
In the main event of NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed on October 28, Shingo Takagi beat Tama Tonga to win the NEVER Openweight Championship. In doing so, he captured the title for the third time.
Tonga previously won the title by defeating David Finlay at NJPW Destruction in Ryogoku on October 9. The loss on Saturday ended Tonga’s third reign as the NEVER Openweight Champion.
After the bout, Takagi made it clear that he was looking for fresh competition. AEW star Trent Beretta answered, as he appeared on the video screen and challenged Takagi to face him at NJPW Lonestar Shootout on November 10.
