Ricky Starks says CM Punk is the last true superstar in wrestling.
Starks and Punk have been feuding in recent weeks on AEW Collision. Punk defeated Starks to retain the “real” world championship on the August 5 episode of AEW Collision.
In an interview with Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN Wrestling ahead of the show, Starks discussed working with Punk and called him the last true superstar in wrestling.
“Punk is a future Hall of Famer,” Starks said. “He is the last true of a true superstar that we have in wrestling. Whether you…personal reasons beside, his career is pretty decorated in that regard.”
Ricky Starks On His Current Run
Starks went on to describe how he doesn’t have any restrictions now, but he’s the same Ricky Starks.
“I don’t look at it as anything other than I’m going in there, and I’m going to give the best version of myself that I know possible,” he said. “Too long have I felt maybe I put myself in a constraint, so to speak, and tried to mold myself or fit into a way that I never really agreed with to begin with, that I never really saw myself as. I’m constantly thinking of different restrictions.
“Where’s the wall, where’s that edge that I have to hit? Now, in this sense, I don’t have any restrictions. I don’t have any edges or walls that I’m gonna hit. What I’m saying, what I’m doing, now I’m wrestling, what I’m about, I’m still the same Ricky Starks, I really am.
