Tommaso Ciampa is feeling great but wants to see what happens when he really pushes himself in the ring.
Ciampa explained his recovery process during an appearance on Out Of Character with Ryan Satin. Ciampa returned to WWE TV this month after missing nine months due to hip surgery. Ciampa says he’s feeling great, but it’s still a difficult answer because he knows he needs to get more ring time to really test himself.
“It’s awesome when you don’t have to wrestle. The hard part, of course, is when you have to wrestle. ‘Ahh, crap.’ So it’s always hard to answer because I feel 100% if I never had to wrestle again. I’d be like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m going to live a good, healthy life,’ Ciampa explained. “You [add] the bumping, the traveling, flights, car rides, it’s too early for me to say. I’ve only had one match since I’ve come back and it’s probably 100% as far as like, scientifically healed. But I have no idea what it’s going to do when I start to test it [in the ring more often].
“I did stem cells too, when I was out, and the results of that have been great. I’m really hoping that — knock on wood, knock on something — that’s a bad injury in my career. I’m hoping that is behind me and I get a nice, solid run here. That’d be really nice.”
Perfect Timing
Tommaso Ciampa went on to discuss how Rey Mysterio helped educate him on stem cell therapy. Ciampa said it’d always been an interest to him, but Rey and Bobby Lashley both spoke to him about their experiences at BioXCellerator in Colombia.
Ciampa says his hip surgery actually lined up where he could go to Colombia, and he got more time for the stem cells to start to work.
“They just spoke so highly of it. Funny enough, I actually was in the process of signing up for it to treat my knees and my shoulders from prior surgeries. And in the process of trying to figure out a timeline to go out there for a week, this hip thing happened. The surgery, to me, came out of the blue,” he noted. “I had no idea this was going to happen and it just lined up in a weird way. Now I’m out 6-9 months rehabbing and I can go to Colombia whenever I want.
“So it timed out in that sense perfectly because oftentimes with wrestlers, they’ll go get stem cells and they’re back in the ring within one or two weeks,” Ciampa added. “I got the stem cells and I was able to just rest for about three months. Really, I got the full benefit for it. And they say the best of it comes 6 to 12 months later. I’m only about 4 months out now, so I’m really hoping it continues because I feel unbelievable from it. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a placebo effect from it but it’s been such a good experience.”
