Konnan sees big things in Dominik Mysterio’s future.
MuscleManMalcolm recently asked Konnan if he thinks Dominik has the potential to become a world champion with his current persona.
“Not right now. Definitely in the future because he got fast-tracked. When you first start in the business, they’ll put you in the first match because that’s your skill level. But there are some guys, like it happened to me, I got that big Goldberg push in Mexico. I was immediately in the main events. Even though I wasn’t as good as them, I didn’t have their rhythm, I didn’t have their knowledge, what always got me over was that I always had a special bond and connection with the fans. I always understand that that to me was more important than wrestling.
“To me, anybody could wrestle, and early on in my career, I just felt, ‘Let me connect with the fans.’ That to me was more important. So they had me in main events, and back then, it was a whole different breed of wrestler. They were mostly men, they were hard drinkers and they’re from the street. They weren’t gonna let anybody like me have an easy time.
Sink Or Swim
“I got in the main events, and you gotta learn or sink. I got fast-tracked. Everybody around me was better than me, so there was nowhere to go but up if you had that passion to learn, which I did. After a while, I knew what to do, and everybody respected me, where at the beginning, they didn’t, so Dominik’s the same way.”
Konnan said that Dominik Mysterio is getting a chance to work with some of the best wrestlers in the world now. He’s growing in the WWE environment and he already knows the business because of his father’s own career.
“You’ve seen he’s getting better in the ring, he’s more confident. He’s been in what, two years, and he’s got great, great heat, and a good gimmick. So I could see him in the future, not now, definitely…he already knows the business. He’s second-generation, he was there when he was a little boy. They obviously like him, and they love The Judgment Day because they do run RAW.”
