Ricky Starks says he views himself and CM Punk as equals.
The former FTW Champion will face Punk in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament on the July 15 episode of AEW Collision.
Speaking on the Big Show with Rusic & Rose on SportsNet, Starks previewed his upcoming match against Punk.
“There’s people who look at certain figures in wrestling like, ‘Oh, it’s this guy.’ They put them on a pedestal, basically,” Starks said. “To me, I am shoulder-to-shoulder with CM Punk in my head. We are equals, and so one thing that I do want to get across is that regardless of what has been done in someone’s career, what has been done in AEW, the fact will remain that I am a person that can stand on my own. I can stand shows or to shoulder with anyone, and I can go toe-to-toe with any single person, microphone [and] in the ring, and I feel like I’ve proven that with MJF, and I’ve proven that with Chris Jericho, so I don’t see this being any different with CM Punk.”
