Giulia has dethroned Willow Nightingale.
Following her victory at STARDOM’s Sunshine event, Giulia turned her attention to NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale, challenging “The Babe With The Power” to face her in a match. After Nightingale accepted Giulia’s invitation, NJPW announced a title match between the two would unfold during the second night of NJPW STRONG Independence Day on July 5.
Willow Nightingale took early control of the matchup, derailing Giulia’s attempts to nail her with an arm drag and flying leg scissors. Nightingale continued to dominate as she unloaded a subsequent spinebuster and a series of lariats. The two then battled back and forth a while until Giulia shifted the tide into her favor, countering the Babe with the Powerbomb into a Code Red.
Nightingale put forth a valiant effort, but in the end, it was Giulia who emerged victorious. The closing moment of the match saw Giulia deliver a vicious knee strike before following up with a Northern Lights Bomb to secure the pinfall. With this win, Giulia is now the new NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion.
After defeating Willow Nightingale, Guilia is the second NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, as the title was only introduced in May. Nightingale previously defeated Momo Kohgo and Mercedes Mone at NJPW Resurgence to win the title in a one-night tournament. Nightingale’s reign officially ends at 45 days.
In addition to the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship, Giulia is also one of the current holders of the Artist Of Stardom Championship. That title presently belongs to Giulia, Mai Sakurai and Thekla.
