WWE responds to MLW‘s amended lawsuit.
In March, MLW filed an amended lawsuit against WWE with added details in their case to argue that WWE attempted to undermine the competition, monopolize the market, and prevent MLW from landing distribution deals. Earlier this spring, MLW content was not able to air on Peacock through REELZ because of WWE’s contract with the streaming service.
Courtesy of PWInsider, court records show that WWE argued several points. Among them, WWE said that MLW contradicted their own allegations by admitting they sold media rights to REELZ in comparison to AEW selling media rights to Warner Bros. Discovery. Additionally, MLW failed to allege claims pertaining to their product market, market share, and harm to competition.
WWE also pointed out that REELZ picked up more content from MLW and that the company signed an “important” agreement with FITE to air their weekly program and premium live events seeing as though WWE has not had a working relationship with that streamer.
WWE is now asking the court to block MLW from attempting to amend the lawsuit further as they believe MLW failed to adequately allege a federal cause of action, and the court should dismiss remaining state law claims for lack of subject matter and jurisdiction. The next hearing is scheduled for June 15.
