Ricky Starks believes that time is his biggest enemy in the world of professional wrestling.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Ricky Starks recently sat down with Evan Mack to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked how he feels about fans saying he’s not being used to his maximum potential, Starks admitted he would be lying if he didn’t share those same sentiments.
“I guess so, yeah. But it’s not a sentiment that I don’t hear, or that I have not shared. I would be lying to you if I don’t share those sentiments,” Ricky Starks said. “I feel like everyone feels that way at a certain point. I think what it boils down to, and I think a lot of people can relate, is when you have so much to offer, and you are ready, you have the bullet loaded, and you have the finger just ready to pull, and you’re like ‘alright, let’s do it,’ and it doesn’t exactly go off or stuff like that, that’s where the frustration sets in, with a little bit more emphasis on the passion and the drive behind it.
“I hear it 100% and I am frustrated, I have been frustrated. I already know this is gonna blow up and people are gonna be like, ‘Oh, Ricky’s frustrated at AEW.’ I’m actually not. What I’m saying is, I’m frustrated that I’m not exactly where I want to be within myself. I’m frustrated that my linear path that I have already set in my head, regardless of where I’m at, hasn’t been exactly where I wanted to be. That is a self-frustration. Ultimately what I’m frustrated with is just time. There’s no person, there’s no entity that I’m frustrated with. I’m frustrated with time because I haven’t gotten to where I want to be and what I want to do. As I say, that takes time.
“That’s my biggest enemy. I appreciate people saying you deserve this and that. I do deserve it. I absolutely 100% deserve it, and I will get it. I will get it in time. I appreciate people keeping that sentiment up because the same people that are rallying behind me and creating this energy is the same energy that I have balled up within myself. I think at this point, people know how passionate I am about wrestling, how serious I take it, and how serious I take what I’m trying to cultivate here ultimately.
“I said it before and I’ll say it again. I stand shoulder to shoulder with people like CM Punk, with a Kenny Omega, with a Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins. I don’t care what you think about it as a wrestling fan. That’s what I believe, and that’s what I’m gonna die believing. It’s not for me to say those things for you to believe it. It’s me to say it out loud to let y’all know what it is, and at the end of the day, I’m gonna die on that hill because that is who I am and that is what I ultimately believe.”
