WWE Superstar Karl Anderson has retained the NEVER Openweight Championship and seemingly set up his next title defense.
At the NJPW World Tag League And Super Junior Tag League Final event on December 14, Anderson defeated Hikuleo to retain the gold. After the match, Tama Tonga came to the ring when Anderson called himself the greatest NEVER Openweight Champion of all time. Tonga challenged Anderson for the title, and after they brawled, “Machine Gun” told his foe he’d see him at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.
I just had one of the greatest matches in @njpw1972 history.
I’m the greatest Never Open-weight Champion of all time.
What an incredible run I’m on….@Tama_Tonga , I’ll see you at –#WrestleKingdom in the Tokyo Dome, chump.. pic.twitter.com/VPh4Oy9wrR— Karl Anderson (@MachineGunKA) December 14, 2022
As first reported by Fightful Select, Anderson working the Tokyo Dome show had been the plan as early as August, prior to his return to WWE in October.
