“Speedball” Mike Bailey knows his Albany history, at least according to Springfield.
Speedball” Mike Bailey is looking forward to defending his IMPACT Wrestling X-Division Championship against Frankie Kazarian at Bound for Glory on October 7. This year, Bound For Glory takes place in Albany, New York.
In previous interviews, Bailey has talked about one highlight of road trips being how he gets to try new regional foods. Asked what he had planned for Albany on Bound For Glory, Bailey said he’d been so focused on his match that he’d nearly forgotten to take inventory.
Despite the lapse, Mike Bailey is still a cultured individual and knows that Albany, the capital of New York, is of course famous for one thing… steamed hams.
“Well, obviously Albany is known for steamed hams, but I’m not even sure those are real,” he tells WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard.
The steamed hams meme comes from The Simpsons episode, “22 Short Films About Springfield”, the 21st episode of the 7th season of the animated stalwart. Through the years, the bad yet comical interaction between Super Nintendo Chalmers and Principal Skinner has been turned into everything from songs to a WWE No Mercy storyline.
That episode also happens to be Mike Bailey’s favorite episode of The Simpsons.
“My favorite character is Barney Gumble because I think it’s hilarious that whenever he puts his mind to something, he nails it. He was on his way to becoming the greatest astronaut of all time, he can also pilot a helicopter, and he’s an amazing singer.
“He’s portrayed as a loser who does nothing but sit at Moe’s but whenever he tries to do something, he always nails it. The short film that he produced was on its way to — or did win the film festival. So yeah, Barney Gumble [is my favorite character] for that. My favorite episode, the steamed hams — 22 Short Films About Springfield episode, that’s my favorite episode.”
At Bound for Glory, there will be such eye-catching action that it will make you think you’re seeing Aurora Borealis localized entirely within the Albany Armory on Friday, October 7, 2022, beginning at exactly 8 p.m. eastern time.
You might be asking yourself, “May I see it?” The answer is yes, as it is available on FITE and traditional pay-per-view.
