New TNT Title Debuts, Mixed Tag Trios Bout Set For AEW Double Or Nothing

What should have been a joyful occasion quickly turned sour for Scorpio Sky on the May 27 episode of AEW Rampage, and now he’ll compete in a buzzworthy bout at AEW Double or Nothing.

After Sammy Guevara and Frankie Kazarian smashed the TNT Championship belt on the May 20 episode, Dan Lambert subsequently told the champion that he’d give him a new title on Friday. That’s exactly what he did, as he presented Sky with a gold championship belt, which Lambert himself called “a masterpiece.”

Ethan Page said that the new title meant they could move on from Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti, but the duo had other plans. The video screen played a video of Guevara, Conti and Kazarian breaking into the American Top Team Gym. They smashed the trophy case and stole the titles within before they told Lambert that if he wanted the titles back, they’d be in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Sky subsequently said that this feud has been going on for too long, so he agreed to give Guevara and Conti the mixed tag team match they’ve been chasing. He announced that at AEW Double or Nothing, he’ll team up with Page and Paige VanZant to face Guevara, Conti and Kazarian.

He set the stakes for the match by noting that if Guevara’s team lost, neither he nor Kazarian could ever again challenge for his title.

Sky, Lambert and Page have been feuding with Conti and Guevara for numerous weeks. “The Spanish God” and Sly have traded the TNT Championship back and forth, and VanZant returned to AEW as part of the rivalry. She attacked Conti on the March 9 episode of AEW Dynamite, where Sky beat Guevara for the title and the former UFC fighter signed her contract. She and Conti also interfered in the Ladder Match between Guevara and Sky on the April 27 episode of Dynamite, where Sky regained the gold.
