Moose is still processing the “former” part of his World Championship run, but he still believes he is Mr. IMPACT Wrestling.
Moose recently spoke with WrestleZone while promoting IMPACT Wrestling’s upcoming television taping in Newport, Kentucky. IMPACT will host Under Siege on May 7, followed by a television taping the following night. Josh Alexander bested Moose for the IMPACT World Championship at Rebellion last month, but Moose is still doing media tours and feels like he’s still the face of the promotion, title or no title.
“It still sounds weird with the last few interviews I’ve done here, everyone’s saying ‘former IMPACT World Champion’, that still feels very odd and weird but it is what it is,” Moose said. “Just because I don’t have the title, I still consider myself the face of the company and still Mr. IMPACT Wrestling, obviously, I’m still out doing the media tours and still gonna be doing them. It’s just one of those things that just because I don’t have the title, the physical title, it still validates me being ‘Mr. IMPACT Wrestling.’ The work that I continue to put in and the work that the company expects me to keep putting in shows that I’m still the face of the company.”
Moose came into professional wrestling from the NFL, where he learned to deal with media and did PR work as a player. Asked if saw himself taking on a similar role when he first broke into wrestling, Moose said that the downside is time away from his family, but he loves getting out in public and promoting a company he’s proud to work for.
“I definitely enjoy doing it. You gotta understand, I played in the National Football League for seven years, it’s just something that I had to do a lot and be really good at doing, so I do enjoy doing it. The only thing that sucks sometimes is having to leave early in the week and be away from family longer than normal,” Moose explained, “but other than that side of it, it’s something I enjoy doing. I get to rack up the Sky Miles flying and checking out the new cities that we’re running shows at and find out where the gyms are and the good restaurants. So, pretty much, I got to do my homework before I go to the towns for the shows about some of the cities that we’re gonna be in. It’s not a bad thing at all, I actually enjoy it.”
One of the things Moose had to do some homework on was how to order his chili in the greater Cincinnati region, an area known for it’s “ways” to order Skyline Chili. Moose said he didn’t realize Cincinnati had a reputation for its chili, but ended up being quite impressed by what he sampled to that point.
“I didn’t even know this town was known for chili [before I got here]. It’s funny you say that because I actually ordered some chili last night,” he noted. “Eating it, I was like, ‘wow, this is some of the best chili I’ve ever had’ but now that you say that Newport, Kentucky or Cincinnati is known for chili, I know why what I had last night was so good. I guess I gotta try out some more places while I’m here.”
