Matt Taven says he aims to reach the pinnacle of Ring Of Honor again, and he’d take some more time to enjoy being World Champion if it happened a second time.
During a recent interview with WrestleZone, Matt Taven talked about being back in the spotlight at ROH Glory By Honor. Taven main evented night two against Vincent in Philadelphia, and he says he enjoyed getting to go on last again, but hopes that he can share that with Mike Bennett as OGK now that his issues with Vincent are over.
“Just hearing so much back afterward, it does give you that feeling of like… I wanna back on top and there’s a reason why, and I can feel this support behind me. And I still wanna be on top and I think that the tag division of Ring of Honor has always been one of the best tag divisions in wrestling. And I’ve seen that main event a million times, I’ve been in a million main events that have the tag teams on top and I think that me and Mike can get right back there. Because now it’s like, you get a little taste of it when you haven’t had it in so long and now I’m like, ‘oh man, put me in the main event every single night, I need that energy again.’”
Despite the current run with Bennett as OGK, Taven says he still has a goal to be ROH World Champion again. Taven says this time, he’d take some time to enjoy it a little more since he didn’t the first time around.
“When it’s over and it’s gone, it’s a craving, it’s an addiction, it’s a drug that you just can’t get enough of. And you’re like, you can’t take that from me, not now, I’m just getting used to it. You know what I mean — give that back to me. So it’s like one of those things that I feel I will always, always in Ring of Honor be striving to get back to the top, to get back to the world title scene because there’s nothing like it. I was so determined and focus that I really had no opportunity to kinda enjoy it that much. So I think I’ll always be looking for that, to go back and to do it and again and this time maybe out a smile on my face sometimes when I walk out to that crowd and just kinda take it in for a second because when it’s gone, it’s the first thing that you want, is you want it back.”
