Marina Shafir has been released by WWE.
According to a new report by PWInsider.com, WWE has released NXT star Marina Shafir. Known as one of the ‘Four Horsewomen’ of MMA, Shafir signed with WWE in 2018 along with Jessamyn Duke.
After appearing on-screen at WWE Evolution, Shafir appeared in various matches on the RAW Underground and NXT brands. Shafir also appeared on-air during her husband, Roderick Strong’s feud with Velveteen Dream. Her final match for WWE was a first-round loss in the 2021 Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic to Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart.
Along with confirming the release, PWInsider also noted that Shafir’s departure came as a surprise, explaining that WWE had pitched changing her ring name and had plans in store for her.
