Destination unknown — Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby Soho!
It appears that the former Ruby Riott has settled on a new ring name, changing her Instagram profile to “RealRubySoho”. The name is inspired by a Rancid song of the same name, and it was directly suggested by one of the band members. Appearing on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Ruby discussed her history of in-ring names, which included Heidi Lovelace and Ruby Riott in the past. She explained how she wouldn’t be going back to using Heidi Lovelace, explaining that there was a “multitude of reasons” she wouldn’t be revisiting it.
Lars Frederiksen, Rancid guitarist and co-host of the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, asked if she’d be keeping ‘Ruby’ as a first name and she confirmed she would, noting that the choice (as Ruby Riott) was inspired by ‘Ruby Soho’, a song from Rancid’s 1995 album …And Out Come the Wolves. Frederiksen then offered a suggestion during the ‘name game’ portion of the show and said she should just use that, and he could get the band to clear it rather easily.
“I would like to [keep it] if it’s possible. I feel like it fits me,” she explained. “Ruby came from ‘Ruby Soho,’ and so I hold that very dear to my heart.”
“OK, well, that was gonna be one of my suggestions,” Lars said. “Why not just do Ruby Soho? I got a couple guys I know who can clear the music for you. You should [use it].”
After Ruby shared her elation at the news, Frederiksen said he could get it cleared if she was into it.
“I swear to God, I can have that cleared,” Frederiksen noted. “I can get on a group text right now and get you cleared in about ten minutes.”
The panel, which also included Dennis Farrell and IMPACT Wrestling’s Petey Williams, pitched a few more names to Ruby and she said she’d definitely be considering a few of them as contenders. It appears that everything is now official, and fans can look forward to seeing Ruby Soho in the ring in the near future.
Ruby (Dori Prange) signed with WWE in 2016 and spent the past five years with the company as “Ruby Riott”. She was released by the company on June 2, and her final match for the company was a tag team loss (with Liv Morgan) to Natalya and Tamina on May 28.
