Zicky Dice is primed to take over the wrestling world and he’s out to put his own spin on the NWA and Carnyland.
Dice, the current NWA World Television Champion, recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard and spoke about his gameplan for achieving success. The “Outlandish” one defeated Ricky Starks for the title, but really only had a few weeks to celebrate as champion on NWA Powerrr prior to COVID-19 shutting down the wrestling world. Dice says that part is a little annoying because he had just won the title but right now he’s focused on building his name up in the interim and encourages fans to take notice.
“It is a little frustrating but all I can do on my end in the meantime is build the Zicky Dice brand and build the stock. I’ve been doing a pretty good job of that given the circumstances, but I will say this,” Dice noted, “look at everyone that’s held that championship before me and what’s happened after. They were shot to mega-stardom and that’s what coming next for “Outlandish” Zicky Dice. Just sit back and witness it now.”
Dice also has plans to take his place at the top of the NWA food chain and outlined his plans for taking the NWA World’s Championship, currently held by Nick Aldis. Dice says he wants to fight seven times on Powerrr when they return to air and his grand scheme also involves “Zickyfying” the company’s most prestigious title.
“What I’ve decided to do is prove to the world that I am indeed a fighting World Television Champion. I’m going to line up seven contenders and I’m going to defend my title seven times on the first episode of Powerrr. That’s what I feel like doing. Seven times in a row, the Zicky Dice special episode, Zicky Dice the whole entire time. Do you know what happens next? They came up with this rule called the Lucky Seven rule,” Dice said, “and then I can get my hands on what I call the ‘Ten Pounds Of Pink.’ As soon as I win that belt I’m going to paint it with pink and glitter and I’m going to run wild with it, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.”
While we wait for normal programming to resume, NWA introduced a new concept called “Carnyland,” a kitschy variety show that plays to the roster’s strengths in promo work. Dice says he’s heard rumors of TV tapings resuming as soon as October, but right now the focus is Carnyland and he has enjoyed the creative process for the show so far.
“I’ve heard some rumors here and there. We’re pushing Carnyland right now and some different NWA content—What’s Causin’ Aldis, Inside The NWA, Girl Powerrr, The Eli Drake Show—we’re trying different things right now. We are completely open to what the fans love and don’t love about the show. We have a group call every Wednesday,” Dice said, “we start from scratch and we have like a live group think tank. It’s super cool. We have the option to have a little bit more creative control. We start fresh and we’re rockin’ and rollin’ but it’s tough.
“I’ve heard rumors of maybe October, maybe November, and then I’ve maybe heard January. I don’t know, but all we can do is try and stay relevant and try and stay on top and really do something different than what some of the other brands are doing at the moment. I’ve heard they don’t want to do any empty arena shows,” Dice said, “I also heard that someone might be feeling a little different right now. So I don’t know what to expect and I’m here for the ride and I’m going to do what I can to entertain and deliver for everybody.”
Zicky worked with Allysin Kay on last week’s “Promo School” segment and cited Jackass as a personal influence but wants fans to watch with an open mind. He says the NWA team is very open to critiques and they are just looking to be a different show with an “Adult Swim” vibe, not compete with anyone else. Playing on the title of the latest episode (Rumor Has It…), it was revealed that Carnyland is looking for a Mayor and they’ll be taking nominations soon. Zicky took the opportunity to throw his own hat in the ring, noting that it sounds like a lot of work but he’s up for the challenge.
“I heard there’s a rumor around NWA that there might be an election for Mayor going down. I don’t know if someone is digging into Zicky Dice’s past at the moment, I can only hope not, but I might run for Mayor of Carnyland. You know what? I’ll say it right now—I’m running for Mayor Of Carnyland!”
“There, it’s the Outlandish Party with Mayor Zicky. In Carnyland it’s like Hedonism—there are no rules. Just let it flow and wear pink. You must wear pink, maybe that’s a rule! I don’t know yet, I’m still figuring out my pitch.” Zicky said. “Running for mayor sounds like a lot of work. I don’t like to do cardio but I’m going to give it a shot.”
