Drew McIntyre has come a long way in his journey to the top of the WWE universe. Speaking on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, WWE legend Mick Foley spoke about McIntyre, and said that he believes that the 2020 Royal Rumble winner would be a great opponent for someone like Brock Lesnar.
“[Drew McIntyre is] a great opponent for Brock [Lesnar],” he said. “But even more important than being a great opponent, I think the transformation he underwent when he left the company as part of 3MB – and I love 3MB. I thought to myself, ‘I’ve seen Drew McIntyre as a main-event guy, I didn’t buy it.’” Foley went out to describe how after leaving WWE in 2014, McIntyre reached out to Foley with a new act, one that was much more adult.
“I press play and there’s a guy who looks like Drew McIntyre, but in a sense, a different human being,” he said. “Cutting this impassioned promo that’s full of emotion and full of life. And I’m looking at my screen like going, ‘Where did this come from and where was this and what is this guy capable of doing?’ And the first thing I did…I texted Triple H and said ‘Hunter, I know he just left here, but you need to keep an eye on Drew McIntyre.’”
Clearly, Foley ended up doing the right thing, as McIntyre has returned and been a big presence in the WWE, and will now have his shot at a proper WrestleMania moment.
