When Baron Corbin tried to reveal his choice for the special guest referee at Stomping Grounds, it didn’t go according to plan. Seth Rollins attacked the prospective referee EC3 with a steel chair. Then the New Day came to the stage and interrupted the Kevin Owens (and Sami Zayn) Show. WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and his stablemates picked up EC3’s unconscious body and used him as a puppet to sanction the match.

Before the match, the announcers revealed that Big E and Xavier Woods will face Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at Stomping Grounds. Woods and Zayn began this match as the legal men. Zayn, Owens and Corbin dominated Woods for a few minutes but Woods surprised Zayn with a roll-up for the first fall. Corbin nearly pinned Kingston after a Deep 6. The former RAW GM accidentally took down Zayn, which caused Owens to snap and drop Corbin with a superkick. Kingston pinned Corbin after a Trouble in Paradise.
