It was reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful that HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver would feature a segment about the WWE handling their talent as independent contractors and the episode sure delivered a with a 20-minute segment on the matter.
Oliver goes on to preface that he’s a wrestling fan, but then goes after the WWE extremely hard, bringing up early wrestler deaths, calls the character and the actual Vince McMahon an “asshole.” Oliver continues to go into major detail about the independent contractor status and uses clips of Jesse Ventura, CM Punk and Roddy Piper to show Vince McMahon’s handling of his talent throughout the years.
Oliver also gives credit to wrestling fans for helping to support wrestlers like Jake Roberts and even closes out the segment with a pitch for people attending WrestleMania to make their voices heard regarding the topic. The full video is below:
