Cesaro was interviewed  for an article by The Citizen’s Voice in a phone conversation with Tony Maluso that focused on WrestleMania returning to MetLife Stadium. In the phone chat, The Swiss Superman talks the appeal of being on “The Road To WrestleMania”, him forming a tag team with Sheamus, if he wants to get into singles competition again and the differences between RAW and SmackDown. Quotes are below:

Cesaro on the allure of WrestleMania:

To me, the road to Wrestlemania always starts the day after (the last) Wrestlemania. It’s a year-long road, but this is the home stretch. If you watch any race, it’s where you start to sprint. It’s definitely the fun part of it. You saw last week on ‘Smackdown’ and ‘Raw,’ there’s a lot of people coming back, there’s surprises. There’s a lot of stuff happening. It’s definitely the home stretch.

It’s definitely a lot of moving parts. Last week, you had the McMahons bring back Kevin Owens. On ‘Raw,’ they suspended Becky Lynch. That’s why people keep coming back — you never know what’s going to happen.

You always want to catch the eye of people. You always want to go out there and prove you’re the best. Especially during the home stretch of Wrestlemania season, you want to make sure all eyes are on you. That’s what we’re doing. There’s definitely some extra motivation for the biggest show of the year.

On if there’s a difference for him between RAW and SmackDown:

For us, it’s the same. We want to be on top of both shows. We were a cornerstone of “Raw,” we are a cornerstone of “Smackdown.” We are the best team, that’s what we want to prove. That’s always our goal. “Smackdown” has a lot of potential. “Smackdown,” I feel, has more excitement than “Raw” even though “Raw” is always branded as the flagship show. But I think there’s a lot of excitement on “Smackdown,” there’s more focus on the wrestling aspect. With the new TV deal kicking in in November (Fox is taking over broadcast rights), I have high hopes for “Smackdown.”

On if he considers going back to singles competition:

If you’re teaming with someone like Sheamus, it’s obviously a lot of fun. I’ve been blessed with a lot of good tag team partners throughout my career. I have a lot of fun there, but I definitely still have a lot of goals as a singles competitor I want to accomplish.

On the current state of tag teams in WWE:

I feel “Smackdown” has the absolute best tag teams in the world. We have us, we have The New Day, we have the Usos, we have The Club, we have Sanity, we have the Hardys, we have Rusev and Nakamura. Obviously, I don’t really want to, but I have to mention tag teams like Miz and Shane McMahon, even these odd pairings but definitely the best tag teams in the world. In my opinion, tag team wrestling is absolutely fantastic. It’s very exciting and I just wish it would be given a bigger chance and platform, especially at “Smackdown.”

Cesaro also talks about his alliance with Sheamus and being a WWE Superstar from Europe. You can read the entire interview by going here.
