Cathy Kelley recently interviewed WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon, who opened up about what it feels like to host WWE’s first all women’s pay-per-view in Evolution,
“It’s really taken every woman who has ever step foot inside a wrestling ring for any promotion all around the world. I was actually asked by someone who was interviewing me the other day, ‘Who do you think was the biggest pioneer that launched it all?’ I said, ‘It was probably an unsung hero.’ It really probably was. There are so many women’s stories that unfortunately we won’t be able to tell; but, here we are today with this movement that has taken all of these women and everyone who’s supported them along the way – all of the men who have supported them, the entire WWE Universe and now here it is: the first ever all women’s pay-per-view live streaming event: Evolution. It’s hard to describe how I feel. This is something I’ve dreamed of since I was a little girl watching WWE and I’m so proud of everyone and everyone around here is just glowing. It’s an incredible feeling.”
Stephanie also talked about women one day main eventing WrestleMania,
“I hope the legacy [of Evolution] will be that is that it is not so ground breaking or earth shattering to have an all women’s event. I hope to see our women main event WrestleMania. Every match at WrestleMania is a main event; but, I want to see them close the show the way they have successfully on so many other shows. We want true gender parity and equality on the WWE roster and I’m just so anxious to get there, but today is a hugely important step on that mission.”
Stephanie also teased more women’s events in the future, labeling Evolution as potentially, “The first of many to come.”
