Tommaso Ciampa found his way from an indie darling making his way up in NXT to the most hated heel in wrestling. It’s a testament to his dedication to sticking to character all the time. But what led up to that one night in Chicago is what’s more fascinating.
His initial WWE appearances happened long before the birth of NXT when he first appeared in a segment with The Undertaker of all people. He signed a developmental contract and reported to Ohio Valley Wrestling in early 2007 but his stint would last just six months as he suffered an injury.
However, the release turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him as he went outside and continued to hone his craft and develop his character. He would regularly appear on NXT on a Tier-2 contract. He was soon signed full-time and paired with Johnny Gargano. The rest, as they say is history.
His time in NXT would see him rapidly improve as an in-ring performer, putting on instant classic after instant classic. We take a look at his five best matches in WWE.
