According to PWInsider.com, the original plan for last night’s episode of WWE RAW was for Neville to challenge Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship, not Kalisto.
PWInsider cited a previous report noting the writing team likely made the change due to writing themselves into a corner with Kalisto being the only Cruiserweight who could get a title shot due to Enzo’s “no contact” clause with the rest of the division. Additionally, it was noted that the show falling on Eddie Guerrero’s birthday allowed the writers to add a promo from Kalisto that linked the win into Guerrero’s legacy due to Eddie being an inspiration to him.
This was one of a few changes reportedly made to the script on last night’s show, including the format of the ‘Asuka Challenge’ Fatal 5 Way match on RAW being switched up several times.
