According to a report by PWInsider.com, Justin Gabriel was not happy with his place within WWE, and asked for his release from the company after being removed from the Royal Rumble match this weekend.
Gabriel debuted in 2010 as a part of the first season of the NXT reality series, and made his main roster debut as a member of the original Nexus faction. He captured the WWE tag team titles on three occasions, each time alongside Heath Slater, but has not been used prominently since the Nexus disbanded. Justin has appeared sporadically on NXT and WWE Superstars over the last year, and was placed into an entertaining tag team with Tyson Kidd in 2012, but hasn’t been used consistently on television for several years.
KILLAM: Justin falls into that unfortunate category of incredibly talented cruiserweights the company has no idea how to use. That list includes guys like Tyson Kidd, Evan Bourne and likely half the stars of NXT right now, all of whom could have made a killing in the 90’s working for WCW. I hope he finds the success he’s looking for on the indies – he’s got name value now, and should have no shortage of bookings. I like Gabriel a lot, and it’s actually a decent time to be working the indies if you can brand yourself correctly (see: The Young Bucks).
