AEW Rampage New Year’s Smash Results (12/31/21)

Tonight on AEW Rampage New Year’s Smash, Cody Rhodes defends his recently won TNT Championship against Ethan Page while a tag team street fight goes down in the women’s division.


AEW RAMPAGE NEW YEAR’S SMASH

December 31, 2021, Jacksonville, FL

Commentary: Excalibur, Ricky Starks & Tony Schiavone

MATCH 1

Darby Allin (with Sting) def. Anthony Bowens (with Max Caster) via pinfall.. The two men pace themselves to start the fight off. Max Caster gets on the apron, Darby flips him off with his back turned and then bumps into him. Bowens sends Darby into the ring post before we head into picture in picture.

This fight takes place a lot on the outside and apron. Darby topes on top of The Acclaimed before tossing Bowens back in to hit the Coffin Drop for the 1-2-3. Post-match, Andrade El Idolo comes out on the entryway and The Acclaimed attack Sting and Darby.

MATCH 2

Street Fight

Anna Jay & Tay Conti  def. The Bunny and Penelope Ford via submission. Anna Jay pops Bunny with brass knucks while Penelope Ford moonsaults off onto a prone Tay Conti on the table. The table however, doesn’t break. Ford grabs a bottle and smashes Conti with it. Both Conti and Bunny are busted open.

Bunny reverses Anna Jay’s Queenslayer by backing her up and droppng her through a table. Bunny grabs hold of thumb tacks and dumps them center ring. Anna Jay fights Bunny in the corner. Jay superplexes Bunny onto the tacks and Daily’s Place chants “Holy shit.” Penelope sacrifices her arms by saving Bunny in the tacks. Conti hits a Gotch pilerdriver to Ford off the apron and through a table. Finish comes when Anna Jay has her arm wrapped in barbed wire and locks in the Queen Slayer for the submission victory.

MAIN EVENT

TNT Championship

Cody Rhodes (c) (with Arn Anderson) vs. Ethan Page (with Scorpio Sky & Dan Lambert). Very mixed reaction for Cody from Daily’s Place. Cody goes for a Cross Rhodes on the apron, but Page leaps off to take Cody off his feet. Sky, Arn and even Dustin Rhodes gets involved on the outside and it allows Cody to hit a Cross Rhodes which Page kicks out of. Page hits an avalanche bulldog powerslam from up top, but Cody kicks out.

Finish comes after two Cross Rhodes and a Tiger Driver ’98 as Cody retains.
