Jay Lethal Appears At AEW Full Gear, Declares He’s ‘All Elite’

Jay Lethal says he’s All Elite.

Jay Lethal made a surprise appearance at AEW Full Gear on Saturday night, declaring he was All Elite and interested in issuing a challenge. Lethal said he was looking to take the open challenge laid out by TNT Champion Sammy Guevara, but knew it wasn’t going down since Guevara just finished a grueling Minneapolis Street Fight on the show. Lethal said he wanted the match on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, and Guevara came out and accepted the match.

Shortly after Jay Lethal’s promo, AEW posted the customary “All Elite” graphic, confirming his status with the company.

Known as “The Franchise” of Ring Of Honor, Jay Lethal had been with ROH for nearly fourteen years between two separate runs with the company. His most recent stay in ROH started in 2011; he won the ROH World Championship twice, and had one reign each with the World Television Championship, Pure Championship and World Tag Team Championship, making him the third and most recent ROH Grand Slam Champion. Lethal spent the past year as a member of The Foundation, a stable consisting of Jonathan Gresham, Rhett Titus & Tracy Williams.

Jay Lethal recently spoke with WrestleZone’s Colin Tessier and talked about the success of ROH’s Pure division in the past year, explaining how the pandemic presented the right outlet.

“The opportunity to present pure wrestling really found its niche with the no-crowd [setting],” said Lethal. “I really feel like, when we were forced to do these shows with no people in attendance, you know, wrestling has been this dynamic of there’s a good person and a bad person, and without the fans there to cheer for that good person and boo for that bad person, then it kinda becomes a little hokey and weird, which it is, when they’re there.

“But when they’re not there to do something in a way where you are affected by whether or not the people are in attendance, that was the real task. And man, I think we hit a home run with the Pure Division. So I think it’s so cool we get to showcase our actual wrestling, guys who you didn’t think could go before, you’re seeing that they can actually wrestle.”
