This past Monday, RAW was live from “Seattle, Washington”. To be accurate, it was actually live from Everett, Washington. WWE has a proven poor track record when it comes to accurately stating where they are during their broadcasts. Lots of people in the UK will know this from years gone by. Some may even remember a time when they simply stated they were in the United Kingdom rather than the city they were in.
During that show, they showed London landmarks when they were actually in Manchester, which is ‘only’ about 200 miles away. As you can imagine, fans weren’t happy. At least this past Monday’s gaff was only a difference of about 30 miles but I bet the people of Everett didn’t appreciate WWE’s lack of confidence in their city’s name.
I understand that WWE want to look like they are always in the big cities, but there isn’t any harm in highlighting locations that other people might not recognise. Especially seeing as the people who paid to be there are usually the ones who end up being offended.
Anyway, moving on. This Monday saw Stephen Amell’s WWE story with Stardust finally take shape. After Stardust provoked Amell at ringside, the ‘Green Arrow’ jumped the barricade, leaped the top rope and speared Stardust before being separated by WWE officials. Now Neville and Amell (WWE – Please don’t call them Amellville) will take on Stardust and Wade Barrett at SummerSlam.
I was surprised to hear that Amell’s involvement wasn’t as well received with some fans as I thought it would be. Amell is a genuine WWE fan and isn’t frightened to say so. He respects the business and his interaction with Stardust in the ring and backstage segment with Triple H was a far greater celebrity involvement than any other in recent memory. Granted, I’m still trying to shake off the memories of Kathie Lee and Hoda.
